It’s ok

I got a few samples to see what would look good on our new doug fir windows. I am looking for a nice warm honey tone, so I had high hopes for “Royal”. It ended up being too dark though, closer to a chocolat brown in most areas while leaving some markings blonde. The other colors were either too dull or to yellow or too red. Also the tone really varies with the smoothness of the surface and it looked a bit blotchy on our trial pieces. Since these are windows, we are hand sanding and I am just not confident that we could get the surface sanded evenly enough for a better result. We will go with a clear marine varnish instead. I was also considering RMC for trim and siding on our new cottage (wildfire rebuild - lots of new wood to seal), but am afraid it would be prohibitively expensive. I tried the stain on pieces that had smooth sanded and rough-cut sides and the rougher side soaks up exponentially more stain than the smooth sides. At that price, that’s just not an option. We are however using RMC on our doug fir floors. Since they are inside we can go with one of the clear colors, which should turn out fine.

Glad you were able to try out some samples. FYI: You can mix the colors together to create a custom color if one of the standard options isn’t getting the look you desire. That being said, if you aren’t able to properly prepare the substrate, then a non-film finish like ours might not be the best choice. Regarding the cost, it is typically competitive because of the spread rate and only needing one layer, so you need less product by volume and save on labor costs. Exciting about the floors! Please let us know how it goes!

I used this product on a large wall sculpture I did for the foyer of a new Trade Mart building in Jackson, MS. This product was highly recommended by my friend Adam Elliot. I now realize I should have done more research about application regarding temperature and humidity. I was forced by my schedule to apply this in high heat(100+F) and 90%humidity. Although I was conservative with the application, (using a brush) it seemed to flash too quickly to wipe the excess at times. Also, the website was a bit confusing in regards to which product suited my needs and it was brought to my attention, after the fact, that I needed to use the two part system, as I was on a tight schedule. All that being said, I love the product and it looks beautiful. This piece will require maintenance over time and Rubio offers the best solution to achieving that. I will send photos, if you are interested, once the construction is complete and the piece is unveiled.

So far the deck looks amazing. This is really easy to apply. I am eager to see how long it protects, but so far I am very happy with it.
