I purchased this to show my client the color possibilities. these samples are definitely better than the small try-fold brochure available at a Rubio Monocoat retailer. That said, only two of the five colors that my client chose came close to the sample fan deck. The samples on the fan deck state they are representative of the results you can achieve on white oak. The samples I created for my client were on white oak. I don’y hold that against Rubio as I understand that woods within even the sam species can produce different results. Overall it is a useful tool but ALWAYS do a sample board of the Rubio product on the project wood so you can get an accurate depiction of what the final outcome will be.
Well put! While we wish we could make a paper deck that represents every single color scenario, it simply isn't possible. You hit the nail on the head, ALWAYS make a sample before committing to a color. Thank you!
Without knowing what type of wood the color example is based on- makes decision making very difficult. Gave a good starting off point for ordering bottles of color samples
The Paper Fan Deck contains printed images of European White Oak sanded to 120 and water popped.
Good communication, quick shipping. Fan deck shows a good representation of available colors.
The paper fan deck is not quite as accurate as the wood fan deck at the retailer but it is satisfactory for narrowing choices down to a few colors in order to buy samples.
For a furniture maker like my self Rubio has been a game changer to my finishing process. I use it most often on table tops and everyone loves it. It’s easy to revive, maintain, and repair. Plus it’s available directly through them or amazon in just a couple days. They also have amazing resources to how the color will likely look on different wood species and have been pretty darn close every time for me. Seems a little pricey to some but it’s well worth the price.
