Fourteen woodworkers from across the world traveled to Rubio Monocoat headquarters in Belgium for the Rubio Monocoat Atelier 2022. At this event, the makers were split into two teams and challenged to create a piece of furniture to be raffled off to benefit Aynimundo, a Peruvian charity striving to help disabled children reintegrate into society. Faith Jablonski recently found out that she has an aggressive form of bone cancer. In response, the Instagram woodworking community has rallied around her with countless posts and prayers. The whole class got behind the cause and created these pieces with Faith in mind.
PJ used Rubio Monocoat primarily because of the one coat technology. With so many projects going on and countless contractors to coordinate, it is invaluable for PJ to be able to knock out the whole staining process in one day. As PJ himself put it, “There is no two, three coat application. We save ourselves two or three days in the process.”
The Pleasant Valley Cooperative Preschool had a small wooden playhouse in need of a protecting finish that is natural and safe for the children. Rubio Monocoat was more than happy to donate product to reinvigorate the small playhouse.
The school lasted for 3 days and covered the entire process of sanding and refinishing a floor. We had an excellent group of attendees who represented top flooring talent across the nation. The comradery and knowledge that was shared during the class was incredible!
Vincent Solis is a remarkably outstanding young wood worker who recently graduated from Conestoga College this past year. His “Curvy Console” capstone project was awarded the “Master Craftsman Award” and additionally selected as the “Best in Manufactured Product” amongst all the final year projects.
