Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum amount of Open Time Extender I can add to DuroGrit?

We recommend starting off with 5% and not exceeding the maximum amount of 10%.

Does the Open Time Extender also affect the spreadability of DuroGrit?

No. If you need to improve spreadability (i.e. on rough wood or for terrace application), add up to maximum 20% of water.

Does the addition of Open Time Extender affect the UV and/or mechanical resistance of DuroGrit?

No, but make sure to add no more than 10%.

How long can DuroGrit be stored once mixed with Open Time Extender?

After mixing, the product can still be stored for months in frost-free and dry conditions (temp. 41°F - 77°F or 5°C - 25°C ).

How much more time does the DuroGrit need to dry when I add Open Time Extender before it is ok for rain to hit the finished surface?

When the Open Time Extender is used when you don't need it (for example when it's cold or cloudy), this can lead to a slower curing time. It may take up to 1 or 2 days longer before you can place a load on decking or furniture. For siding or fences this is usually not a problem.

Can I add Open Time Extender when it is cooler weather (below 70 F) but need more open time due to the large area that is to be finished?

In cooler weather conditions, the addition of Open Time Extender ads significant time to the dry and cure time of DuroGrit.
