Inspired by a deep appreciation for Japanese architecture, design, and traditional carpentry, this bespoke whiskey cabinet reflects a thoughtful balance between heritage and contemporary form. Created from an open-ended brief to fill an asymmetrical alcove, the piece embraces creative freedom through a refined blend of modern Japanese minimalism and the elegant lines found in historic structures. Handcrafted entirely from solid American cherry and ash, it features sculpted black ash shelving influenced by the curves of Shinto torii gates, contrasted with precision-turned solid brass supports. The cabinet’s split construction allowed for seamless on-site assembly, ensuring both structural integrity and a tailored fit within the space. Custom elements, including a pull-out drink compartment, book-matched panels, and hand-shaped handles, highlight the level of craftsmanship throughout. The piece stands as a functional yet sculptural addition to its environment, complete with premium hardware and traditional joinery techniques.
The cherry was finished with Oil Plus 2C "Pure", and the ash shelving was given an opaque black finish using Precolor Easy "Intense Black" and Oil Plus 2C "Black".
