Description

Oil Plus Part A - 100 mL's are perfect for sampling Oil Plus 2C wood finish colors. For durability testing or final application, we recommend using in conjunction with Part B.

Why sample?

  • Experience The Ease: Test the simple one-layer application process and see how it bonds to raw wood without lap lines.
  • Find Your Color: Real samples are the best way to see how a color looks on wood from your project in your lighting environment. Choose from our 55 standard colors or mix your own custom color. Part B does not affect color, so color samples do not require it.
  • See The Sheen: Oil Plus 2C has a wonderful matte finish. Want a little more sheen? View our Sheen Enhancers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Oil Plus 2C safe to use on cutting boards?

We do not recommend using Oil Plus 2C on cutting boards or butcher blocks that will be used for cutting.

Rubio Monocoat oil forms a molecular bond with the topmost microns of the wood. A knife can cut deeper than the product penetrates, leaving raw wood exposed and susceptible to mold and/or bacteria growth.

However, as our product is Food Contact Compliant, it is acceptable to use on charcuterie and serving boards.

Is Oil Plus 2C food safe?

Technically, this asks if the product is safe to ingest, but we understand what you're getting at.

While we do not recommend ingesting our products, it can be safely used on a food contact surface. Testing on Oil Plus 2C from an independent testing institute show Food Contact Compliance.

Is Oil Plus 2C really 0% VOC?

Yes. View our certifications.

How can I add more sheen?

There are 2 options to increase the sheen on a surface finished with Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C.

SheenPlus - Increases the sheen level to a satin.

Universal Maintenance Oil - Increases the sheen level by 6-8% to a low satin.

How long does Rubio Monocoat last?

A lifetime with proper maintenance. We would expect the first maintenance to be needed somewhere between 2 and 5 years depending on wear.

Can I cover the floors after they have been finished with Oil Plus 2C oil?

Yes, wood floors finished with Oil Plus 2C can be covered with a non-staining construction paper 48 hours after application.

Please remember:

• Never tape directly to the floor.

• Only tape paper to paper.

• Covering the floor will extend the cure time.

How soon can you apply Oil Plus 2C after water-popping?

Once the surface is dry. We recommend using a moisture meter to be sure.

Does Oil Plus 2C work on all species?

Yes.

On exotic and oily species, you must clean with Raw Wood Cleaner prior to applying Oil Plus 2C

Does Rubio Monocoat require a topcoat?

No.

Can I use Oil Plus 2C over our existing finish?

No, Oil Plus 2C must come in contact with raw cellulose in order to properly work.

Can I put lacquer or poly over Oil Plus 2C finish?

We cannot guarantee adhesion, so you must discuss this with the poly or lacquer manufacturer.

Is Oil Plus 2C recommended for exterior?

No, we recommend Hybrid Wood Protector or WoodCream for exterior applications.

Do I have to use multiple coats for certain species of wood?

Because the product will not bond to itself, multiple coats are not needed. On softer species like walnut, a second application may be necessary to make sure that all areas have fully had the opportunity to react with the oil.

Do you have a clear in Oil Plus 2C?

Pure is our unpigmented color. As all oils, it will warm/richen the wood.

The color Natural does contain a light colored pigment.

Read more about Pure vs. Natural.

How do I apply Oil Plus 2C?

Please visit the Oil Plus 2C product page to view application videos and download the TDS.

Additionally, you can view the Application Instructions Brochure.

How many colors does Oil Plus 2C come in?

What is the cure time for Oil Plus 2C?

24 hours - Gently handle or walk with socks
48 hours - Furniture can be introduced (no mats or carpets)
5 days - Full cure and liquid resistance.

How long do you have to wait to walk on the floor after applying Oil Plus 2C?
