What does GREENGUARD Gold certified mean?
Products that have achieved GREENGUARD Certification are independently tested by UL to meet some of the world's most rigorous third-party chemical emissions standards. Products are tested in emissions chambers to measure the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other chemicals they release into indoor air.
GREENGUARD Gold is the stricter of the two levels. It sets lower total VOC limits and adds criteria for sensitive people such as children and the elderly, which is why it is the level referenced for schools and healthcare facilities. For a wood finish, that means the test measures the finished surface's effect on indoor air, not just what is in the can.

About the GREENGUARD Gold formula
In early 2023, Oil Plus 2C moved to its current GREENGUARD Gold certified formula. The updated formula has lower viscosity, so it spreads more easily and goes further, and it stores better at high temperatures. Pre-2023 and current batches can be mixed on the same project. The color Pure looks different in the can than it did before 2023, but there is no difference once applied.
